Experiences

Most sites would call this the Activities page… but that word is a little light for what actually happens here.  You do have a wide variety of activities available to you… all of which are meant to be sensory, emotional, as well as intellectual; the overall result is a transformative experience.

(We offer thanks in advance to some of our recent guests for the photos. Ana, Doug, Doug (yes, I meant to put that twice – thanks to both of you!), Daniel, Maggie, Ian, Lloyal, and Jen… we loved having you, and we love having these pictures to share!  Hurry back!)

Connect to the island.   Teach your hands Hawaiian.  Participate – at your own pace, and to your own comfort level – in the arts and activities of Hawai’i, many with award-winning practitioners.  Some examples:

Fishing Hawaiian style (Spear; ThrowNet; Trap); gardening; surfing (or surf lessons); guided coastline hikes; kava ceremonies; learn to husk a coconut; bonfires on the beach; drumming; hula and chant; making useful items from native plants; lei making – including gathering the materials; stand under a waterfall or 2 or 3; Hawaiian slack key guitar; kayak the tropical river outside your door; make poi (this is a most rare opportunity to spend the morning with the most local of the local community at the Hawaiian Farmers of Hanalei, making poi to feed people all over the island.  See beautiful photos of this experience here…)

Touch it, taste it, smell it, feel it, hear it, do it … Live it.

Relax…exhale…take it slow… or ADVENTURE!!!

Eat delicious food.  (Did I mention Uncle K can COOK?)

Get your toes dirty and your soul clean.  Spend the week touching only organic materials.  Wake up In the morning, grab a hot cuppa, go out your front door, walk 30 steps, and watch the rivermouth change every day…be amazed…be peaceful…feel ALIVE…be very, very grateful to yourself for making this choice…
