Aloha and Welcome to My Uncles’ Place!

Welcome to Kalihiwai Valley and to My Uncles’ Place.  This valley has been my family’s home for many generations; we were among the earliest Polynesian settlers on this island.  Now I offer you our hale – a beach cabin – which will be the center of activity for your awesome Hawaiian-style eco-cultural experience with me as your guide.  The house is situated steps away from the Kalihiwai River and beautiful Bay beach; it is your own private paradise.  (Here’s a hint: the photo is not the house in question… this is my inspiration; it’s my uncle’s and grandfather’s place, across the river.  Mahalo nui loa to Jen Consalvo for this beautiful image and more in this site.  You can see more of Jen’s artistry here. )

I am your host, Keali’i Holden.  You can call me Uncle K, though your stay here will render you much more comfortable with the Hawaiian language.  See more about me here, but for now, let’s keep talking about you.

In your stay with me, you will go deeper into a place than you may have ever done before.  Hawaiians have a strong sense of place, and I am no exception.  I will share with you an intimate immersion into the North Shore area I love to call home.  We will focus on the near shore area and its scenic and recreational resources.  You will experience the beauty, energy and indigenous culture of the island that few visitors ever get the opportunity to encounter. In addition, you will be treated as an honored guest by the land and the local community…

Please read some more, enjoy some photos, then see what options might work best for your visit to Kaua’i.  I’ll be heading out now; I’ll let my tech people handle writing the rest of this.  Mahalo for visiting the site… You’ll be happier when you come to the place!
